Like Little Children

I’ve often wondered what Jesus meant in Mark 10:15. (15 I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” (NLT)

But first, what is the kingdom of God? The reign / lordship of God. To embrace Jesus as Lord and Saviour, it requires simple faith and the simplicity, and humility like seen from the eyes of a child. I believe that’s what He meant.

Then I realized that life is actually quite simple for a child. Looking back, my dad never failed as a provider. He worked hard although he was occasionally away, he still provided for his family. My mother never failed as a mother. As a child, I never had to worry. Growing up. That’s when you start to see things differently and start to have doubts etc.

Many years ago, I was really worried about my exam results. I knew I did not do well just because of how I struggled doing the final paper in 2nd year at university. When I left for summer vacation, I worried about losing my scholarship. I had trouble sleeping and my mind was extremely busy playing various scenarios in my mind. Then one night, I had a dream. In my dream, I saw a big sign in the highway. There were only 2 words. “Trust Me”.

The rest was history. I didn’t lose my scholarship.

Bible Verse

Those who know your name trust in you,
for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you.

Psalm 9:10 (NLT)

Soar

Imagine finding the feather of an eagle on the ground. Imagine seeing the eagle fly so close. If you love eagles like myself, you will feel in awe. I found the feather of the white bellied sea eagle sometime last year. I never expected to find one again on the 1st day of the new year. Perhaps, it’s a foreshadowing that this is the year to soar.

It almost looks effortless as they soar in the sky.

What does it mean to soar? The Mirriam-Webster dictionary has 4 description. My favorite is, “to rise to majestic stature”. If you have fallen behind, it’s time to draw close to the Lord again. If you draw close to Him, He will draw close to you. The only way to learn His ways is to become close to Him and spend time with Him.

May this new year be the year that we all take that step to get to know our Abba Father more.

Bible Verse

Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.

James 4:8 (NLT)
