Lord, Slow Me Down

In a world that’s always in a rush, I try to slow myself down. From some messages shared by various pastors, this year is the year of acceleration. How true. My working days seem to speed everything up. Sometimes I ask myself what is all this for? Then I remind myself I have a mortgage to pay. It never stops me from wondering what are they rushing for? Yes, there’s global shortages for some materials and searching for parts is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Yes, I get it; the drive for higher revenue year after year. Are people in a rush to get electric cars, electronic gadgets, or..? What exactly is driving all the demand? I admit I don’t understand. I will understand, if there’s the constant strive to improve one’s wellbeing, the search for treatment for dementia, cancer, etc… Sometimes when things become rather crazy and hectic, I ask the Lord to give me more time or slow me down. Everyone has 24 hours a day but how we use those hours tells a different story.

Everything has a process to it and sometimes, we can’t just rush it. We can sow different seeds but we can’t harvest all at the same time. I have amaranth, basil, chili, and a few other vegetables in my garden but when I harvest my amaranth, my beet is still growing and my broccoli hasn’t even showed its head. So, if you’re upset because you see other colleagues get a promotion, or you see your friends getting something that you want, remind yourself that God always has what is best for you in His mind.

Learn to breathe deeply, rest and smell the roses.

Bible Verse

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
