Knowing A Tree By Its Fruit

Today I experienced something I’ve not experienced before. The problem about buying seeds is you have to trust the seller that the seeds are good seeds and would yield the plant that you want. In my case, I bought seeds for broccoli sprouts. I’ve never once doubted the seller because their business is quite reputable. So, I’ve been happily eating the sprouts until I decided to give myself a challenge. I tried to grow broccoli in the tropics. I left 3 seeds to grow and fed them with compost and took really good care of them. Then I felt like something was amiss because their leaves are not curly by the side. True enough, after sharing the picture with a gardening group, I’m convinced this plant is “pak choy” and not broccoli.

I feel so disappointed and betrayed. I was suddenly reminded of the verse in the book of Luke.

A tree is identified by its fruit. Figs are never gathered from thornbushes, and grapes are not picked from bramble bushes.

Luke 6:44 (NLT)

I’m also reminded to live my life the way that would honor our Lord.

Bible Verse

A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.

Luke 6:45 (NLT)
